PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY

25/26 SEASON

The Extended Professional Community (EPC) was established in 2024 with the desire to create meaningful and lasting connections between Black Box Dance Theatre and the extended professional dance community. This talented group of artists collaborate with BBDT Company Members and Choreographers to originate new works, adding to the breadth and depth of Company Repertory.

FAQs

  • No, EPC Members are not considered Black Box Dance Theatre Company Members.

These dancers are a valuable part of our professional community and play an important role in elevating high-quality modern dance training and performance in the greater Raleigh area. EPC artists are credible dance educators, hold dance degrees (or are in pursuit of them), and have received professional training.

  • EPC casting is determined by an annual audition process held in the Summer before the beginning of each dance season. The audition process is required for all EPC dancers regardless of previous company membership status.

While the casting has already been decided for the 25/26 season, keep an eye on our website and social media for audition announcements about the 26/27 season!

  • We are looking for adult pre-professional and professional dancers. College students, working professional artists, and dance educators, this company is for YOU. High schoolers, come take Community Drop-In Classes and see us for auditions when you graduate!

Auditions are open to all so long as you are serious about your craft and able to commit your time to EPC.

If you’re unsure about your experience level but still have interest, please audition! At the very least, auditioning is a valuable learning experience for developing artists, and we’d love to be a positive part of yours.

  • Once you’ve been accepted into EPC, you get to decide how involved you want to be.

Looking to expand your training with technique classes? Go to every Monthly Community Drop-In Class and Seasonal Intensive on us. Want some exposure to different Company Choreographers and their rehearsal processes? Join the cast for up to THREE new, original dance works. Seeking performance opportunity? All EPC Members will perform in at least ONE production to close the dance season in the Spring, but may have additional chances to perform with Black Box Dance Theatre.

  • No, EPC is not a paid position. It is no secret that working in the arts may involve unique financial circumstances. While we cannot guarantee payment for EPC members, we are committed to compensating our dancers however we can.

EPC Members receive free access to ALL Monthly Community Drop-In Classes, Seasonal Intensives, and BBDT Performances for their season of membership. EPC dancers are also guaranteed at least one professional performance opportunity.

Accessible and rigorous dance training for adults is hard to find, and often pricey. We hope to offset some of the costs of your continuing dance education with artists you can trust, as well as give you valuable experiences and partnerships that contribute to your professional resumes.

  • For the 25-26 season, EPC will create 3 new works, each one made by a BBDT Company Member. The three choreographers for this year include Kate Gupton, Cortney Vartanian, and Payton Chopp.
